One of the key factors in building a solid relationship with your list is credibility. If you want to build a responsive list, with good open and click-through rates, you need to make sure you’re credible. Let’s look at some ways to help achieve this.
The most important thing is to be ruthless about guarding your reputation. Never promote something without either checking it out yourself first or getting a recommendation from someone you trust. Avoid tricks to get people to open your emails or click on the links.
Essentially, treat your subscribers the way you want to be treated by other marketers.
Chances are, there are a small number of marketers who have earned your trust and you open their emails as soon as you see them. The subject line may not even matter – if it comes from a particular person, you just open and read it.
Think about what those people provide that makes you want to read their emails. Is the content in their emails always valuable? Do they have consistently high quality products or recommendations? Do they have a lot of integrity?
The things that impress you about other marketers are most likely the same things that will impress your subscribers. Do more of those things and less of the stuff that you might have heard is effective, but you don’t like personally.
Another important factor in building your credibility is to be careful of who you partner with. Always make sure you’re familiar with the style of any marketers you partner up with. And let them know that you need to review whatever they’re sending to your list before you will agree to email for them.
Any recommendations you make are going to reflect back on you – good or bad. Once a problem occurs, it’s pretty hard to put the cat back in the bag – even if you apologize, your list is going to wonder the next time you make a recommendation.
Lastly, another effective way to build credibility is to interact with your subscribers personally. If they send you an email, reply back to them or answer commonly asked questions in another email, where you mention people who have asked by name.
Over time this gets harder to maintain, as your list grows, but if you can keep that personal touch in place your credibility will increase.

Hey Alexis,
People said money is in the list but that is not the whole story.Without a good relationship with your list you’ll still struggle to make money with it.
By the way I like your new blog design.
Keep up.

You’re right Kafu, the hard work after having a list is building that relationship to convert them into buyers.
Thanks for your input.
